Bryan was born in Des Moines on February 14, 1955 to Charles Westley Dowd and Betty Jean Holliday Dowd.
After graduated from Des Moines Tech High School in 1973.
Bryan enlisted in the US Air Force where he served for four years. After his honorable discharge.
Bryan attended Drake University graduating with his Bachelor's Degree and then the University of Iowa where he earned his Master's Degree.
Bryan worked for the Veterans Administration for over 30 years as a Counseling Psychologist where he touched the lives of many veterans.
He was a very active member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed reading, movies, music and taking special road trips on his motorcycle with his friends. Bryan loved animals and had given many animals a wonderful and loving home.
Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Betty Jean Dowd of Des Moines; sister, Jill (Neal) Prati of Cumming; niece, Tiphani (Jeff) Kreuger of Westminster, CO; nephew, Jayme Prati of Phoenix, AZ; great-niece and great-nephew, Julianne Geneser and Jack Kreuger and many other family member and friends.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel. Private Graveside Service with Military Rites will be at Glendale Cemetery in the Veterans section, where he will be buried next to his father Charles.
A Memorial Service for Bryan will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 5, 2012 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1285-3rd Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52403.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cedar Rapids Humane Society, 7411 Mt. Vernon Road SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52403 or to Westminster Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids.
