Gresham resident Ronald L. Irving died Tuesday, March 20, in Gresham. He was 83.

A private family gathering will be held.

Ron was born Sept. 8, 1928, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, to Lorin and Winifred (Harper) Irving. He later moved with his family to Spokane, Wash., where they received their U.S. citizenship and Ron finished his education.

In 1948, he married Charlotte "Kitty" Kittelson in Seattle.

Ron began working as an electrician. During his enlistment with the Merchant Marine, he worked on submarines in Seattle on the weekends. He was honorably discharged in 1957. After his discharge, he worked for General Electric and then for Argo.

Ron was transferred to Portland where he continued with Argo. He was a member of Local 46 of the IBEW Union for 67 years. In the mid-1970s he owned his own pump repair business in Portland. He retired in 1991.

Kitty and Ron enjoyed traveling to California in the winter. He cherished family time with his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2010 and by his daughter, Cindy Farmer, in 2011.

Survivors include his daughter, Debbie Pierce of Fairview; sister, Marie Atkins of Oak Harbor, Wash.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Gresham Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
