Her mother Nancy Melton was half Cherokee and half wife, the presumed daughter of John Melton and Acumo (also seen as Ocuma) who was a full blood Cherokee woman. Permelia and her husband were listed in the Old Settlers Roll in 1851 at Tahlequah, now Oklahoma but at that time part of the Indian Territory or Cherokee Nation-see attached document)
