Samuel was the son of George Ilgenfritz and Margaret (unknown maiden name). About 1789 he married to Mary Magdalena Cron (Crone) also of York, York, Pennsylvania, daughter of Johann Philipp Cron Sr. and Mary Elisabeth Rollauer. Samuel served during the Revolution (between 1783 and 1790) as a member of the Army 5th Company, 1st Battalion, and reached the rank of Private.∼Record from York Heritage Trust
