Bryce Kanoy Hurd, age 77, of Huntersville, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at his residence. He was born January 27, 1928 in Rockingham County, NC, son of the late Banner Kanoy Hurd and Daisy Ziglar Hurd.

A graduate of Mayodan High School, he attended Lees McCrea Jr. College, received his BS from Elon College and his Master's Degree from Appalachian State University. During his career from 1953 to 1980 in the Mecklenburg County School System, he coached football, wrestling and tennis, taught Biology and Physical Education, was Athletic Director and Assistant Principal at North Mecklenburg High School. After retiring from the school system he worked for thirteen years at Turtle Creek Nursery. He served in the Army Air Force for three years following graduation from high school and attending college.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at Raymer Funeral Home, Huntersville, N.C. Private funeral services will be conducted in Mayodan, N.C.

Survivors are his wife Linda Shreve Hurd; son, David Brice Hurd of Huntersville; daughter, Marsha Hurd of Davidson; grandsons, Eli and Cody Scattergood of Davidson; sister, Loretta Gilmore of Texas; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Hurd.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 500 E Morehead Street, Suite 211, Charlotte, NC. 28202 or the charity of donors choice.
