The entire cemetery was searched and a gravestone could not be found for Ezra. There is a base near son Eugene's broken gravestone that does not match Eugene's gravestone. The base has a piece of broken white marble stone left in it and Eugene's stone does not appear to be white marble. In addition there is an American Legion marker right there and since Ezra was a Civil War veteran perhaps the base belongs to Ezra.

Birth date calculated from death record is 4 Apr 1837. This was calculated from the death date of 29 Jul 1899.

A couple of Civil War records states Ezra died 22 Jul 1899 in Fryeburg, ME - whereas the Maine Death Records, 1617-1922, states 29 Jul 1899 in Bridgewater, ME. This later death date and place agrees with his death notice below.

Civil War: Enlisted as Private on 7 Dec 1863 at the age of 26. Enlisted in Co B, 1st Heavy Artillery Regiment Maine on 7 Dec 1863. Promoted to Full Corporal on 9 May 1864. Deserted on 23 Jul 1864; Corp. Ezra McGray, gunshot, right index finger amputated.

Ezra McGrey [sic], a well known resident of Bridgewater, died on Saturday night very suddenly of heart failure. He was a veteran of the civil war, and was engaged at the time of his death as mail carrier between the Boundary and Bridgewater Center.
