Mrs. R. M. Watson Succumbed Friday Services Saturday

Mrs. Mae Watson passed away Friday, April 5, 1957, at the home of her son, Mr. and Mrs. Acie Watson. She had been seriously ill for two weeks.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at the Leonard Church of Christ. Officiating was Bill Baker of Noble, Okla., assisted by Hollis Windam of Bonham.

Burial was made in Leonard Cemetery under direction of Wilson Funeral Home.

Casketbearers were grandsons, Charles Kuhn, Roby Watson, Tom Samples, Everett Watson, Jr., Mickey Fuller and Gerald Williams. Grandsons who were honorary pallbearers are R. C. Kuhn, Morris Kuhn, C. G. Watson, Bill Samples, J. C. Samples and Billy Watson.

Mrs. Watson was born in Wells County, Indiana, in 1877. Her parents were Lum and Ann (Lockwood) Clevenger. When she was a small girl the family moved to Ravenna, Fannin County, Texas, where they lived until she was sixteen years of age.

She was married to Raymond M. Watson in Bonham in 1893, and left for Nashville, Ark., where they lived until 1906, before coming back to Fannin County. She had lived near Leonard the past 41 years. Mr. Watson died in 1938 and Mrs. Watson had made her home with her son, Acie Watson, since that time. She had been a member of the Church of Christ for 65 years.

Surviving are four daughters and three sons, Mrs. Grace Samples, Whitewright; Mrs. Eva Kuhn, Mrs. Ethel Williams and Mrs. Ruby Fuller, Leonard; Everett Watson, Whitewright; Clifford Watson and Acie Watson of Leonard. Two brothers, Clyde Clevenger of Forman, Ark., and Mort Clevenger of Cororn, Calif., 30 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Besides Mr. Watson, Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Mossie Trotter in 1948.

A Christian woman who devoted most of her time to doing things for friends and relatives, Mrs. Watson was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Although she was 80 years old and her health had been failing for the past three years she was still very efficient with her handwork. Some say she nearly always had a needle in her hand. Things she has made can be found in many Leonard homes, things that will be kept by the owners as a remembrance of Grandma Watson, as she was affectionately known.
