The Paris News, (Paris, Texas), Thursday, 28 Jan 1982, p. 2:

"Mrs. Berdie Wells

Mrs. Berdie [sic s/b Birdie] L. Wells, of 2185 E. Cherry, died Tuesday, Jan.26, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Funeral services were set for Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Bright-Holland Funeral Home with the Rev. Terrell Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. Wells was born Nov. 18, 1888, in Princeton, Kentucky, a daughter of Christopher Columbus Stephens and Nancy Radford Stephens. She married John Wells, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Carl A. Stephens, of Phoenix, one brother, Otis Stephens, of Kentucky; one sister, Mrs. Annie Mae Johns, of Marathon, Fla.; one granddaughter, Mrs. J. W. Wagner, of Dallas; two grandsons, Danny Stephens, of Dallas; Angie Stephens, of Fort Worth; seven great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Helen Stephens, 1008-3rd SW."

NOTE: Her first husband was Joseph Benjamin Stephens whom she married 28 Jan 1906. He died 4 Jun 1952. Her maiden name was Stephens and she married another Stephens. Whether they were cousins of some sort is not known at this time. Transcribed by Ronald G Brothers.

"Services for Mrs. Berdie L. Wells, 2185 E. Cherry, were conducted Friday in the Bright-Holland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Terrell Hill officiating and burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Bearers were Joe Rushing, Danny Stephens, Angie Stephens, John Waggoner, Tony Waggoner and Perry Waggoner. Mrs. Wells died Tuesday at St. Joseph's Hospital."
