Daughter of Solomon Stephenson, Jr. (ca. 1740/45-1781) and his wife Anna "Nancy" Johnson (d. aft. 1791) of Johnston County, NC. Wife of James Carrell (ca. 1765-1834).

Rhoda Stephenson married James Carrell on February 1, 1792 [bond dated January 30, 1792] in Johnston County, NC. James Carrell was the son of James Carrell (ca. 1730/40-1777) and his wife unknown (ca. 1750- aft. 1812) [possibly Lucy Carrell or Lydia Ogden] of Cumberland (Harnett) County, NC. His mother married secondly about 1778 to Abraham Perry of Cumberland (Harnett) County, NC, Johnston County, NC, Montgomery County, NC, and Buncombe County, NC.

James Carrell served as a private in the Revolutionary War under Captain Ebenezer Folsom and Colonel Raiford. James Carrell applied for a Revolutionary War pension in Johnston County, NC on August 29, 1832 [Revolutionary War Pension Application of James Carrell, W6899, National Archives, Washington, DC].

James and Rhoda (Stephenson) Carrell resided on Camp Branch southwest of McGee's Crossroads in present day Pleasant Grove Township, Johnston County, NC. Rhoda (Stephenson) Carrell migrated with several of her adult children from Johnston County, NC to Dale County, AL in late 1836.

Rhoda (Stephenson) Carrell applied for a Bounty Land Warrant for the Revolutionary War service of her late husband James Carrell on August 21, 1855 in Dale County, AL [Bounty Land Warrant Application 86103-160-55, National Archives, Washington, DC].

James Carrell and his wife Rhoda Stephenson were the parents of Margaret "Peggy" Carrell (md. Britton Langdon); John Carrell (md. Martha "Patsy" Lassiter); David Carrell (1md. Mary Matthews; 2md. Mary Margaret Matthews; 3md. Margaret "Patsy" E. Johnson); Reuben Carrell (md. Margaret Matthews); James Carrell (md. Penelope "Pennie" Kennedy); Obedience "Beedie" Carrell (md. Elisha Lassiter); Sarah Carrell (md. Levi Stephens); Rhoda Carrell (md. Joseph Matthews); and Rebecca Carrell (md. Daniel Johnson).

Rhoda (Stephenson) Carrell is not listed on the 1860 census of Dale County, AL, although she is known to have lived with her youngest daughter Rebecca (Carrell) Johnson until her death. Rhoda Carrell died September 11, 1861 in Dale County, AL. Her death is recorded in a ledger of births, deaths, marriages, sealings, and endowments kept by the family of her daughter Rhoda (Carrell) Matthews (wife of Joseph Matthews), who were members of the LDS (Mormon) church. The ledger is known as the Archibald Sullivan Record Book, as it was kept by the son-in-law of Rhoda (Carrell) Matthews.

On November 18, 1976, a bronze marker and granite family marker were placed at her grave by descendants and members of the Ozark, AL Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) [DAR Magazine, May, 1977, Volume 3, Number 5, p. 484].
