Eugene C. Compton
Funeral services will be held tomorrow for Eugene C. (Gene) Compton, owner of Compton's Restaurants, who died yesterday at St. Joseph's Hospital, San Francisco. He was 69. The New York born restaurateur succumbed after a long illness, during which his son, Irvin, had taken over the management of the firm's 13 cafeterias, two of which are in the Eastbay. The chains was founded by Mr. Compton's father in 1914. Gene Compton entered the business after serving in the Army in World Was I. He was a Mason, a member of the Knights Templar, and a Shriner. Masonic services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Halsted and Co., 1123 Sutter St., San Francisco. Mr. Compton, who lived at 1310 Jones St., San Francisco, is survived - in addition to his son - by his wife, Agnes; his mother, Cora; a sister, Mrs. Frank Clancy; another sister, Mrs. Floyd May, and three grandchildren. Interment will be at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park.
