William Baltzell, age 81, well known in this city, where he had made his former home, passed away at the Soldier's Home at Marshalltown last Monday afternoon from pneumonia.

Mr Baltzell was a native of Miami county, Ohio, where he was born May 29, 1837. He enlisted in Company K, First Ohio Infantry, September 6, 1861, at Piqua O, and was discharged September 8, 1864 at Chattanooga, Tennessee.

In 1864 Mr Baltzell was united in marriage with Miss Mary Fletcher, and went to Topeka, Illinois to live. Mrs Baltzell died there and on October 1, 1871 Mr Baltzell took Miss Mary A Musselman as his wife. The Baltzells lived at Topeka until 1888, when they came to Marshalltown and three years later to State Center. The second Mrs Baltzell died here in 1895.

Surviving Mr Batlzell are two step-daughters Mrs J W Downey, Tonkawa, Oklahoma and Mrs A C McReynolds of Riverside, California. Two nieces, who were reared by Mr and Mrs Baltzell are Mrs W I Good of Marshalltown and Mrs J R Wyatt of Huntley, Montana. Mrs Lucinda Brooks of Hampton, a sister of Mr Baltzell as is also Mrs Cassie Wakins of Ohio, Harrison Baltzell of Princeton, Indiana is a brother.

Mr Baltzell was for many years a member of the Methodist church of this city.

The body was brought to this city for burial and was laid to rest yesterday afternoon in Hillside cemetery.
