Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Emery of Emlenton have received word that their son, Pvt. Wilbur D. Emery has been awarded two medals, one for sharpshooting and the other for use of the M1 rifle.

D. 1, serving with American infantry in France has been reported as missing in action as of Sunday, July 23 by the War Department in a telegram to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Emery, Sr. Prior to entering the service Pvt. Emery was employed by the Talon Steel Tube Division in Oil City.

Wilbur was taken prisoner of war about July 23, 1944 while a member of Co. B, 358 Infantry Regiment and was interred at Stalag 4D Torgau (Elbe) Sachsen, Prussia 51-13. His actual release date isn't recorded.

Corporal Wilbur Dwayane Emery, SN 33710676 was drafted into the United States Army on December 2, 1943 at New Cumberland, PA and was discharged at Fort Ord, CA on December 3 1945 after having served overseas from June 16, 1944 through June 12, 1945.
