Adin Norris Helgeson was born Nov. 29, 1914, to Helmer and Clara (Hauge) Helgeson on his parents' homestead, Freeman Township, Richland County, near McLeod. He attended public schools in Freeman Twp. and in Wyndmere. He farmed with his parents until joining the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1933. He serviced in the CCC at Itasca Park, Minn., Duluth, Bismarck, and in Utah in 1937.
He returned to Wyndmere and married his childhood sweetheart, Doris Anne Mashek at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, on Sept. 1, 1937. The couple farmed in West End and Garborg Townships, Richland County, and were members of Gol Aal (Grace) Lutheran Church, rural Wyndmere.
In 1958, Adin moved his family to Fargo, where they were charter members of Hope Lutheran Church, and to Bismarck in 1962, where he was Director of the North Dakota Department of Weights and Measures until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Golden Kiwanis and Sons of Norway, all in Bismarck.
In retirement, Adin enjoyed restoring antique farm tractors and Model A Ford cars. He maintained his farm home in Garborg Township with his wife, Doris, until her death in 2006, and continued to enjoy spending time there until his death.
Adin is survived by one daughter, one son, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
