Edward L. Bonifay, Jr.

1924 - 2012

Mr. Edward L. Bonifay, Jr., a resident of Gulf Breeze, Florida, passed away peacefully at The Villas in Gulf Breeze on the morning of March 24, 2012. He was born October 10, 1924 in St. Andrews (Panama City), Florida. He was the oldest permanent resident of Gulf Breeze having moved there in 1936.

Mr. Bonifay retired from the Pensacola Navy Yard as a helicopter maintenance supervisor after 33 years. He was a member of the Gulf Breeze Volunteer Fire Department from its beginning in 1955 and was Fire Chief from 1974 to 1989. Ed was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rites, and the Hadji Shriners Temple for more than 55 years. Ed was also among the founding members of the Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife Anna "Boots" Bonifay, son Edward "Larry" Bonifay III and wife Terri, daughter Lois Ann Gavin and husband Steve, three grandsons Albert Bonifay and wife Lisa, Kyle Lindsey, Edward Bonifay IV, two granddaughters Alicia Lamont and husband Mark, Katie Asbil and husband Earl, and ten great grandchildren.

The viewing will be held at Rose Lawn Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 27 from 5 to 7 pm. The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 am, also at Rose Lawn. The Reverend Gerald Monday will officiate. After the services the family will receive visitors at the Bonifay's home in Gulf Breeze.
