Eleanor Mae Simonds, 84, of Fort Worth passed away peacefully Sunday, March 25, 2012, at Universal Hospice.
Eleanor was born Aug. 15, 1927, in Whitesboro to Charles and Ada Stockman. She and her twin, Edna (Prouty, of Hurst), were the last of their four daughters. (Mabel Butler and Genevieve Black preceded Eleanor in death in 2002 and 1992, respectively.)
Eleanor attended Polytechnic High School in Fort Worth and, a brief stint in Louisiana as well as a wealth of global travel aside, made her home in Fort Worth for the rest of her life.
Eleanor eloped to Weatherford with Charles Simonds on June 1, 1944, after a year of courtship that included daily letters back and forth as he was stationed around the world in the Army Air Force during World War II. Together they had three children: Chuck (Sandra) of Fort Worth, Kathy of Austin, and Lisa of Arlington.
Four grandchildren affectionately knew her as "Mimi": Shari Simonds (Michael Price), Khristin Wierman (Matt), Robin Dodds, and Michael Dodds (Jessica).
Eleanor served as a minister for 35 years, doing missionary work in small villages in Mexico and holding Bible studies and monthly meetings in Fort Worth. Most recently she attended Without Walls Church in Fort Worth.
Her husband, Charles, passed away in 2003.
She is remembered and survived by all of her children and grandchildren and their spouses, her sister Edna, and five nieces and nephews.
Funeral: 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Chapel. Interment: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
