Twin brother of Julian Senninger DuCray
Husband of Tillie (née Evins) DuCray

Son of Charles Celestin Du Cray and Hannah (née Heslop) Du Cray

Julius was descended from Servois Ducray, one of the Ducray Nine, nine Ducray brothers who saved the life of the French King Henry IV in the late 1590s and were rewarded with knighthood and villages. Servois' village was Gondenans-les-Moulins in Doubs, Franche-Comté, France. The family crest is a shield and swords with nine arrows crossed in the shape of an asterisk, representing the nine brothers.

Julius was grandson of Nicholas and Françoise/Frances (née Petitjean) Ducray, who emigrated in 1839 with their nine children from Gondenans-les-Moulins to Meadville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania. They survived a treacherous voyage, including a shipwreck off of the coast of Newfoundland (see newspaper article "HARDY PIONEER FAMILY Ducray"). In Pennsylvania, Nicholas and Frances had their tenth child, Julius C. Ducray, in 1840, the first Ducray of his line born in the U.S. Vera's grandfather/adopted father Julius C. Ducray born in 1886 apparently was named after his uncle. (Julius C. Du Cray born in 1886 was son of Charles Celestin Du Cray, born 1835; Charles Celestin's youngest brother was Julius C. Ducray, born 1840.)

Julius C. and Tillie (née Evins) Du Cray

Julius C. Du Cray married Tillie Evins. They lived on a farm in Princeton Township, Iowa. In the 1920 Census, their five-year-old granddaughter Vera Graham lived with them at their farm on Princeton-Clinton Road. In the 1930 Census, Vera lived with them at their farm at Princeton and Argo Oil Road and was listed as their granddaughter Vera M. Du Cray. Apparently Julius and Tillie adopted Vera: they were listed as her father and mother on her marriage certificate when Vera Mae Du Cray married Patrick Raymond Doyle on 4 September 1935. (Although the certificate asked for mother's maiden name, Tillie's maiden name was not given; she was named as Tillie Du Cray.)
