BROWNS MILLS - Albert J. Burd Jr., 76, of Browns Mills passed away Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at home surrounded by his family. Born in Trenton, NJ, Albert resided in Lambertville before moving to Browns Mills 27 years ago. Albert served in the U.S. National Guard during the Korean War. He was a life member of the Lighthouse Tabernacle Church, and spent 23 years with the Lambertville Fire Co. Albert was mayor elect in Lambertville in 1964. He enjoyed skiing, fishing, hunting, and Phillies Baseball. Albert is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ellen Burd; his son, Albert Burd III; three daughters and a son-in-law, Diane and Henry Havens, Barbara Cowderick, and Debbie Burd; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Matt Burd, and David and Sharon Burd; his sister, Alice Lind of Lambertville; five grandchildren, Jillian, Christy, Judy, Donald, and Albert IV; and eight great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends may call on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at the Lighthouse Tabernacle Church, 716 Main St., Lumberton, NJ. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Arrangements are by the Mathis Funeral Home, Medford, (609) 654-2439. Interment will be held in Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, N. Hanover, NJ. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Albert's memory to Samaritan Hospice, 5 Eves Dr., Suite 300, Marlton, NJ 08053.
