From The Palmer Journal, January 4, 1934, page 4, transcribed by Linda Berney:

Julius August Blauhorn was born October 24, 1859 to Mr. and Mrs. Carl Blauhorn at Zaineke of Freinwalde in Pomern, Germany. He passed from this life very suddenly on the evening of December 29, 1933 at Archer, Nebr, age 74 years, two months and five days.

He was married to Miss Marie Emma Buss at Alt Starkow, Germany in April 1885. This same year they both came to America where they worked for other German friends around Archer. After a few years they settled on their own farm northwest of Archer. In the year 1915 they moved to Archer where they lived together until his wife was taken to her reward on December 23, 1928. The following five years Mr. Blauhorn lived alone at Archer, often visiting his children and friends in business about town.

To this union was born seven children: Mrs. Otto Rocklitz of Central City, William and Albert of Palmer, Mrs. Ernest Lee and Mrs. Orrin Manchester of North Loup, Mrs. Chas. Glause of Archer and Mrs. Otto Blauhorn of Central City. One son, Otto, preceded them in death in the year 1920.

Mr. Blauhorn was a well known resident all around this part of Merrick County. He was loved for his frankness and sincerity. He was a faithful member of the Zion Evangelical Church of Archer, Nebr. for almost fifty years, where he served for many years as Class Leader and Steward.

The outstanding characteristic of Mr. Blauhorn was his great memory. He could always remember the funeral text of any church member. He remembered the date of many conversions of his fellow members. He learned to play by ear a great many hymns and old German tunes during the past three years. He loved to sing and could surely sing well.

He leaves to mourn his passing, six children, nineteen grandchildren, a number of relatives in Germany and a host of friends of this community and church. (Funeral details followed.)

Interment was made in the family lot at the Zion Evangelical cemetery of Archer. - Contributed by Rev. J. C. Weston
