John H. Lawrence Family
John H. Lawrence was born November 11, 1817 and died August 20, 1894. When about 26, he married Miss Mary (Polly) Arterburn. They resided in Monroe County, Kentucky near the town of Tompkinsville. To this union three sons were born, Elbert P. in 1845, Wm. T. in 1851 and John E. in 1854.
In 1868, they left Kentucky for Missouri and settled for a few years on a farm about four miles northeast of Harrisonville. While at this location, the eldest son died in 1871 and was buried in a country cemetery on the old Brown Farm.
Then, in about 1872, they left Harrisonville when Mr. Lawrence bought an 80 acre farm one mile due south of Raymore, later known as the old Craig farm. (Now the home of Joe and Margaret Council.) In a couple of years, he changed sides of the same section and bought 80 acres on what is now J Highway. On this farm, Mrs. Lawrence died August, 1891 and Mr. Lawrence passed away there in August, 1894. ("Raymore Missouri Centennial 1872-1972," The Printery, Clinton, MO, 1972, Pg 125)
