New Market- George Claus Ahrens, 80, of 130 Century Village, New Market died Sunday Morning at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and James Weissenborn of Rt 1, New Market.
Mr Ahrens was a retired consulting engineer who specialized in public health and municipal utility management.
He was born Aug 2, 1909, at Olive, Calif, and was a son of the late Herman and Ahlina Heitschusen Ahrens.
Mr Ahrens was a graduate of the University of Iowa and held a master's degree in engineering.
He spend 30 years in public health and municipal utility management and was a former partner with Howard R Green Company, Consulting Engineers and Architects, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Mr Ahrens had spent 18 month in Bangladesh on consulting work.
He was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church in New Market.
In 1938, he married the former Rose Kephart, who survives.
Also surviving are a son , David G Ahrens, Appleton, Wis; a daughter, Barbara Weissenborn of New Market, a sister, Olga O'Donnell of Marengo, Iowa; three brothers Fred Ahrens of Omaha, Neb, Herman Ahrens of Marengo, Iowa, and Adolph Ahrens of Mechanicsville, Iowa and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 pm Thursday at the Uhimann Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg, Iowa. Burial will be in St John's Lutheran Church cemetery in Homestead, Iowa.
Memorials can be made to the building fund of Reformation Lutheran Church of the New Market Rescue Squad.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Theis Funeral Chapel in New Market.
