Death has been very busy of late in our community, and it now becomes the sad duty to chronicle the loss of a well-beloved citizen, Mrs. Ina P. Lyon, wife of Harry C. Lyon.

She was born in Johnson County Missouri, December 27th, 1875. In 18847 the family removed to their present home near Independence, Kansas, where her parents, one sister and two brothers still live.

She began teaching when 16 years of age and continued for 10 years, most of the time in Montana. Her marriage to Harry C. Lyon occurred January 1st, 1902, at Wayside, Kansas, since which time their home has been in Idaho Falls. On February 4th, 1904, at 2:45 a. m. after five weeks of suffering she died, at the age of 28 years, 1 month and 8 days.

Thus in a few words we relate the skeleton facts of a life, but how cold and hard they seem and how far from being the most important virtues of the life.

The real essentials of her character may be in part suggested. As a teach, we know her to have been conscientious and capable; as a friend cheerful and true; as a wife, devoted in the extreme, and in her relation to the public in their mercantile business, just and Christian in all her dealings. Even the lowliest ones add their tribute of praise in testifying of her uniform kindness and gentleness, and this because she lived her Christian faith every day and in all relations of life.

The death of Mrs. Lyon is a peculiarly sad one. In the two short, happy years of married life, the husband and wife were more closely associated that is usual. Together they performed their home duties; together they carried on their mercantile business, her counsel always welcomed, so that now, not an hour or a duty shall come to the bereaved husband, but her presence will be sadly wanting. Coming as she did into close contact with the public, her cherry face and pleasant personality will greatly missed.

During her illness many loving friends ministered to her care and comfort and many were the evidence of the love and esteem of a large circle of friends.

The funeral service was held in the Baptist church which was appropriately draped in white and lavender. Rev. Kneeland gave the address, and the male quartette rendered the music.

The Women of Woodcraft attended in a body and brought beautiful floral offerings. The Knights of Pythias furnished the pall bearers. The attendance exceeded the capacity of the building.

To the sorrowing husband and sisters who were in attendance and to the absent mourners we extend our heartfelt sympathy in this sad time of loss. The words of the text, "For me, to liv is Christ, to die is gain," may well be said of her.
