He was the son of Humphrey Gaines and Elizabeth Warren. He was in the war of 1812. He was first married to Mary Ann Deaton Gaines. Mary was granted a divorce from Henry Strother Gaines by an act of the Georgia State Legislature on 14 Dec 1829. He married his brother William Jordan Gaines's widowed mother in law, Rhoda Bates on 20 Jul 1830. He died in 1847 but his estate papers were not filed until Rhoda died in 1863.∼Henry married Rebecca Swindle in 1818 at South Carolina, USA. Rebecca was born 1802 in Abbeville, Abbeville, South Carolina, USA.
