1870, reportedly active in La Grange North & South Rail Road as a subscriber, 1871 active with LaGrange & Barnesville Rail Road and active with the LaGrange Bank & Trust company who in 1917 built new building on his parents nearly, ninety year old homesite at Broome & Main streets, involved with LaGrange Oil & Manufacturing company in 1883 then 1885 with the Old Columbus & Northern Railroad when it went under, in 1905 with Elm City Cotton Mill.

COL. J. A. BROOME, LAGRANGE
LaGrange, July 18. -(Special) -The funeral of Colonel J. A. Broome took place here this afternoon from the residence on Main street. Colonel Broome died yesterday morning after a short illness. He served in the Confederate Army and had many friends throughout this part of the state. Colonel Broome was a director in the LaGrange Banking and Trust Company, having served this institution for many years. He was also a trustee in the LaGrange Female College having served as their institution for many years. He was also a traveling. He was also a trustee in the LaGrange Female College, having held this position longer than anyone else. Colonel Broome is survived by one brother, Col. John R. Broome, of this city, and several nieces and nephews.
