Hazel Esther Vivian Blomberg was born Mar. 7, 1919 in a rural Finnish community near New York Mills, Mn., to Jacob(Jack) and Sylvia(Wapola)Blomberg. She was the eldest of twelve children. The family moved to North Dakota and she attended one-room schools in LaMoure and Dicky counties. Hazel and her sister Elsie learned their first English words in first grade, beginning a life-long love of reading until her vision became too poor to read in recent years. She was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran faith. Hazel was graduated from Oakes High School in 1940. She married Ray Wuolu Feb.28,1941. Following Ray's return in 1945 from WW II service, they farmed near Ludden. Hazel was a hard-working farm wife and was active in Farmers Union, the Finnish Apostolic Lutheran Church, and served on the rural school board and township board. She was active in many community organizations including Homemakers Club,Riverdale Ladies Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary. In 1968 Hazel and Ray moved to their farm in Riverdale Township. Following Ray's death July 19,1991, Hazel moved to Oakes,ND.
Hazel passed away Sunday morning, Jun. 19,2011 at her home at the Good Samaritan Royal Oakes Assisted Living Center at the age of 92 years. She loved everybody she met and will be missed.
Hazel is survived by her two children,Robert(Anne)Wuolu of Valley City,ND, and Janice(Clifford)d'Autremont of Rancho Palos Verds,Ca.,her grandchildren,Christine(Rober) Acherman of Torrance,CA.,David(Lorie) Wuolu of St Joseph,MN., Bill Wuolu of Lincoln,ND., and Lina(Garrett)Hoff of Fargo,ND., her great grandchildren, Nicholas, Anja, and Sabrina Wuolu and Colin and Emily Hoff. She is also survived by her siblings, Elsie Humphreys, Richmond,CA,;Ernest(Florence)Blomberg,Port Orchard, WA, Allen(Charlotle) Blomberg,Pensacola,FA and by her sister-in-law Evelyn(Wuolu)Burns, St. Maries, Idaho and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Hazel was precded in death by Ray, her husband of 50 years, her parent, brother Edmond and James in infancy; Marshall and Roger, sister Violet Fischer, Betty Rogers, Helen Miller and Luella Johnson and a infant grandson
