Death of A. Rainwater
Mr. A. Rainwater died at the home of his son, A.F. Rainwater, about seven miles north of Hamilton, Wednesday, Sept 23, and was buried at the old Rock House cemetery the following day. He was born in South Carolina April 16, 1824 and was therefore 84 years old when he died. He came to this county thirty-three years ago and his wife who died in 1875 as well as his brother and father are buried in the Rock House cemetery. He was a member of the Baptist church for over fifty years and had been a Mason since 1852. Out of a family of eight children only three were living when he died. Mrs. J.B. Carter, of this county, Mrs. J.M. Covey of Throckmorton, and A.F. Rainwater, a son, with whom he made his home. He had been in very feeble health for many years and only a few months ago sustained a severe injury, falling and breaking his arm. During all his life he has had the constant companionship and faithful help of his son, Forest who is one of our most highly esteemed and respected citizens. His funeral was attended by many citizens from town who had known him for years and who held him in high regard. Rev. Mr. Rains spoke a few words at the grave and the Masonic fraternity took charge and conducted the ceremonies.
The Herald notes the demise of this good man with much sorrow and regret for the writer knew him during the latter thirty years of his life and has ever regarded him as a man of the highest worth. We extend our sincere sympathy to the bereaved family, whose loss is one of the saddest we are called upon in life to bear.
