Shelbina Democrat, Shelbina, Missouri, March 31, 1915
Mrs. Martha Ann Miles born in Henry county, Kentucky, March 5, 1833 and died at her home in south part of Shelbina, Saturday March 27, at age 82 years and 25 [sic] days.
Mrs. Miles was married March 30, 1855 to J. B. Miles in Kentucky. In 1864 came to Missouri settling south of Shelbina, her husband preceded her into the great beyond May 10 1896. Soon afterward she moved to Shelbina.
For 25 years an invalid, received tender care and loving ministrations of her two sons and daughter, whose sole thoughts were to show her some pleasure. The past few months, she was both bedfast and blind, but she never complained her lot in life. She was a Presbyterian and a steadfast believer in the doctrine of the church.
She was the mother of six children, three of whom died in infancy or young. The other three are Miss Bertie, William and James, all of Shelbina, except the latter who has been working out of town for several months. Besides these she leaves two brothers; Newton Adams and James Adams of Pleasureville, Kentucky, a half-brother Joseph W. Adams of Salisbury and a step-brother John Kerlin living near here.
Funeral services were held Sunday at the residence, conducted by Rev. H. C. Bolen, interment was in Crooked Creek cemetery, beside the remains of her late husband.
