Henry C. Babb was born in Albia, Iowa, the son of Isaac Pearson Babb and Sarah Ann Cook. He was a resident at Eddyville, Iowa, when he enlisted as a private for 3 years on June 22, 1863. He was mustered into Company B, 8th Iowa Cavalry, on July 8, 1863. He was wounded in action at Cassville, Georgia, on May 19, 1864. He was promoted to 6th corporal on July 1, 1865. Corporal Babb was mustered out at Macon, Georgia, on August 13, 1865. He filed for a Civil War veteran pension in Idaho on August 7, 1890, and received certificate No. 674,254. He married the widow Mrs. Mary H. (Batten) Brashear at Shoshone, Lincoln County, Idaho, on January 12, 1897. He was member of Santa Ana's Sedgwick Post, No. 17, Grand Army of the Republic.
