MOTHER FATALLY HURT BY WORK TRAIN - Seeking Child at Playground When Run Over:
Mrs. Esther Burns, wife of Arthur Burns, 334 North 5th St., died at 11:45 pm Monday of injuries suffered when run over by a work train of the Miami Conservancy earlier in the day.
Mrs. Burns went to the playground near the Ford Motor Co. plant about 5 pm to seek her son, Arthur, Jr. She did not hear the work train, used to carry dirt from the river dredging, & was run over. Both legs were severed below the knee, one arm was broken & she suffered other injuries.
She was somewhat deaf, according to reports to Coroner Edward Cook.
Mrs. Burns was rushed to Mercy Hospital but the shock & the loss of blood caused her death in less than seven hours.
Mrs. Burns is survived by the husband & one son, Athur; two sisters, Mrs. Wm. Oberrecht, & Mrs. Ralph Ward, two brothers, Rev. Father Humbert Wehr of Cincinnati & Gus Wehr of Hamilton & the parents, Mr. & Mrs. Jacob Wehr.
Mrs. Burns was born in Hamilton December 4, 1892 & lived practically all her life here. She had many friends who mourn deeply because of her untimely death.
The funeral will take place at ? am Thursday at the home, with services at St. Stephens Church at 9:30 am. Burial will be at St. Stephens Cemetery.
Friends may view the remains Wednesday afternoon & evening.
