James E. Forsythe, 81, of West Brownsville, a former mayor of West Brownsville for 20 years,died Friday in Brownsville General Hospital.

Born July 24, 1893 in Jacobs Creek, he was the son of the late Stonewall Jackson and Jennie Hough Forsythe.

The retired miner with Gateway Mine Co. was a member of UMWA Local 6330 and Burgess Assn. of Pa. He was a manager of the Brownsville Little League for many years. He was of the Protestant faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife,Bessie, on Aug.2, 1974 and two brothers, Willis F.and Oliver.

His survivors include; four sons; Willis E. of West Brownsville, Robert of Corydon, Indiana, Carl of Republic, Ronald of California, Pa.; four daughters; Mrs.Charlotte Pritts of Low Hill, Mrs. Marcia Earl a missionary in South America, Mrs. Carol Firestone of Uniontown and Mrs. Lola Hill of Waynesburg,Pa.; brother, Ezekiel of Hazelwood; twenty-five grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Friends will be received in the Homer L. Crawford Funeral Home of Brownsville until Tuesday at 1 p.m. the hour of service with Rev. Clarence Mayhle officiating.

Burial will be in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill.
