George Creath was 22, and living in Wapello County, Iowa, when he enlisted as
8th Corporal of Co. F of the 4th Iowa Cavalry on Oct 14, 1861. He was mustered
into federal service on Nov 23, 1861. Along with most of his company members,
Creath became a "Reenlisted Veteran" on Dec 12, 1863. He, and his company, later
mustered out of the service on Aug 8, 1865, in Atlanta.

During his term of service, 8th Corporal was promoted to 7th Corporal on May 1,
1862; to 6th Corporal on Aug 1, 1862; to 5th Corporal on Sept 1, 1862; to 3rd
Corporal (Musician)on Oct 1, 1862; to 4th Sergeant on March 1, 1863; and finally
to Quartermaster Sergeant on Sept 1, 1863.

Creath applied for his pension on July 9, 1885. His application is #544,447, and
his certificate #330,533. After his death, his wife applied for her widow's
pension on Nov 10, 1920. Her application is #1,165,660, and her certificate
#905,555.

WELL KNOWN FARMER DIES AT HIS HOME NEAR OLD ASHLAND
George Washington Creath, a prominent farmer of Wapello county, died this morning at 10 o'clock at his home near Ashland. He was born in Madison County, Ohio, in 1838, and died at the age of 81 years, 9 months and 28 days. In 1858, Mr. Creath came to Iowa and located on the same farm where he passed away this morning. During the Civil war he enlisted in Company F, 4th Reg., Iowa Vol. Inf., and served until the close of the war. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the Winslow Post of the G. A. R. at Agency.

He is survived by his wife, who was before her marriage Miss Melissa J. Myers, and four children, Dr. W. E. Creath, a prominent dentist in this city until two year ago when he moved to Kansas City, Mrs. Andrew Acton and Mrs. J. T. Black of Eldon, and T. M. Creath of Agency.

The funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Ashland church. Rev. O. J. Fix of Eldon will conduct the services, assisted by Rev. J. C. Kendrick of this city. Burial will be made in the Ashland cemetery.
