John Delton Medlock, 74, of Springfield, Mo. passed away Monday, March 19, 2012 at Cox South. He was born May 17, 1937 to Fred and Norma (Dixon) Medlock in Yukon, MO. John fought a valiant battle against lymphoma and Parkinson's disease for 9 long years.

John attended Houston, Mo schools and enjoyed his gatherings with the friends from the class of '57. After school, John joined the United States Air Force and served for 9 years as a staff sergeant. He was able to travel the world and was a trainer of security dogs and their handlers.

John met and married Margie Morton and they had a son, John D. Medlock, Jr. In 1966, he married Lana Burgess Orchard and they had 45 wonderful years together.

John was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Louis Bodo; his in-laws; brothers, Glen and Ivan; brothers-in-law, Gary Hall and M.C. Sanders and sister-in-law, Jayme Medlock.

John is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Lana; 3 sons, John, Jr. of St. Louis, Bradley John Medlock of Springfield and Jay Dee Russell (Debbie) of Willow Springs, MO; grandchildren, Shana Hancock of Centralia, MO, Dakota Bo John Medlock of Springfield, Gabrielle Cheyenne Lynne Medlock of Springfield and Hannah Mae Russell of Willow Springs; 2 step-granddaughters and a great-granddaughter, Macie Nicole Hancock of Centralia, MO.; loving siblings, Bob (Edna) Medlock of Ellisville, MO., Thara Sanders of Neosho, MO, Don (Kay) Medlock of St. Louis, Ronnie Dean (Kay) Medlock and Linda Hall, both from Houston, MO; brother-in-law, Joe (Lynette) Burgess of Plano, TX. and many loving nieces, nephews and many friends.

John had many interests in life. In 1995, he and Lana retired to Springfield from St. Louis and relocated his business, Medlock Equipment Company. He and Lana loved fishing and spent every spring and fall fishing and loved taking his kids and grandkids to the lake. John was devoted to the Parkinson's Groups of the Ozarks and often approached strangers with Parkinson's to educate them on services available in Springfield.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 22, from 6-8 PM in Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at White Chapel, 5234 W. State Hwy EE (W. Division), Springfield, MO. Graveside services will be held Friday, March 23, 2012 at 10:30 AM in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Published in the News-Leader on March 21, 2012.
