Elsie Marie Aasen, of Cambridge WI passed away content that she had lived a full life. With her engaging personality, sharp wit, and strong faith, Elsie was an inspiration to many throughout her life.

Elsie was born in Iowa to Nils Martin and Borghild Hansen, "Syttende Mai" Her parents had immigrated from Oslo, Norway and Elsie was particularly proud of her heritage. After meeting Norman Aasen at a Syttende Mai celebration, they married in 1938 and moved to the Upper Peninsula, MI where they raised their daughter, Judith. There Elsie taught school in both Perkins and Rapid River. Elsie liked to joke it took her 34 years to earn her Bachelor degree in teaching, as she took a break in between her studies to raise her daughter.

In 1977, Elsie and Norm retired to Arkansas and enjoyed extensive travel both with RV camper friends and overseas.

In 2004, "Nana Elsie" moved to Cambridge to be near her young great grandchildren. She enjoyed reading to them, attending their school activities and just watching them grow.

Elsie became much more than a grandmother to her grandchildren Kristin and Tim and they remained very close throughout the years.

Elsie adored her family and was a tremendous role model by the way she lived her life. Throughout her life she taught us generosity, kindness, faith and the importance of friends and family. She was interested in people and engaged in her community contributing by donating her time and talents making quilts, endless amounts of cookies, volunteering in her local libraries and within her home churches. Elsie prided herself in never being bored and kept herself busy doing gardening, daily crossword puzzle, writing letters, bird watching and baking.
