Civil War: Company F Maine 9th Infantry Regiment

Richard was a resident of Sandy River Plantation, Maine. He enlisted as a Private, on the 21 September 1861 in Augusta, Maine. His father, uncle, brothers and several cousins joined the war but in different regiments. He served for the State of Maine with the Union. Richard was discharged on 3 August 1865.

Life after the Civil War:

Shortly after the war ended he married Flora R Day and they had 5 children. Cora, Minnie, Millie, Flora and William. Flora passed away in 1874.

On the 4 July 1875 in Farmington, Maine, the recently widowed Richard married Ella Walker. Together they had four children, Frank Scott, Ellen Lydia, Della Ann and Harold Richard.

The family moved to Moose Lake, Minnesota, in the early 1880's, after Richard obtained a homestead. All of his children with Flora stayed in Maine except young William.

While in Minnesota he worked as a farmer as he had done in Maine.

Richard is buried alongside his second wife, Ella.
