Mrs. Kate Leftwich Bunn, 89 of Fancy Gap, the widow of H. Wayne Bunn, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012, at Abbott's Creek Care and Rehabilitation Center in Lexington, N.C. Mrs. Bunn was born in Carroll County, October 5, 1922, to the late Joel and Dora Brendle Leftwich. Since February, 2005, Mrs. Bunn lived in a Assisted Living Facility in Winston-Salem, N.C. She enjoyed playing bingo, crafts, church services and singing. She also played hand bells at the facility. She enjoyed being surrounded by nurses and friends, however she still missed her friends at Fancy Gap. At the facility, anytime the van pulled up for an outing, Mrs Bunn was always first in line to be included, sometimes even wanting to go on the same outing twice. She was fun loving, always participating and enjoying the activities being offered. When her health slowly began to decline, in August 2009, she had to move to a nursing home. She cherished visits from her friends and family. She was a long time member of Fancy Gap United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Patsy Bunn Swain and husband, Lewis, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a son, Kermit Wayne Bunn and wife, Sandra of Marietta, Ohio; four grandchildren, Travis Swain, of Western Carolina University, Kendra Naumovski (George) of Jacksonville, Fla., Kathy Okerstrom (Joel), of Columbus, Ohio, Kevin Bunn (Mary), of Marietta, Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Mila Naumovski, Zane Gray Okerstrom, Callie Marie Bunn, and Garrett Wayne Bunn. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Bunn was preceded in death by a brother, Kermit Leftwich; a sister, Opal Leftwich.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Fancy Gap United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Maria Grimm, the Rev. Layne Pennington, and the Rev. Darren Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in Good Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy, N.C., where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes before the service.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Fancy Gap United Methodist Church, 578 Old Appalachian Trail, Fancy Gap, NC 24328.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Abbotts Creek Rehabilitation Center for the past two years for their special care.
