William Charles Elgin, 54, of 1174 Orr Ave., Kittanning, died at 2:35 a.m. today at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital. Born October 21, 1919 at Kittanning, he was the son of Harry and Blanche (Whited) Elgin. A veteran of World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 at Kittanning and was discharged in 1945 at Sampson New York as a Carpenter's mate 2nd class. Mr. Elgin was employed as a sprayer at Eljer Corp., Ford City. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion posts of Kittanning, Kittanning Men's Club, Polish National Alliance of Ford City and an honorary member of Kittanning Hose Company No. 4. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Esther (Hetrick) Elgin; one son, William C. Elgin Jr., of Kittanning RD 7; one brother Edward of Kittanning; two sisters, Mrs. Raymond (Ethel) Crissman and Mrs. Richard (Annabelle) Ball, both of Kittanning, and a stepsister Mrs. Homer (Lois) Burkhart of Johnstown. ELGIN – Friends of William Charles Elgin, who died February 13, 1974, will be received at the J. R. Kennedy funeral home after 7 p.m. today where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Clayton H. Gehman, pastor of Center Hill Church of the Brethren, officiating. Interment will follow at Center Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Kennedy.
