Hugh Haggerty Died Last Evening At West End Home

Prominent Miner Succumbed After Long Illness - Brother of Thomas Haggerty

Hugh Haggerty, one of the best known mining men in this section and a brother of Thomas Haggerty, of Reynoldsville, national organizer for the United Mine Workers of America, died last evening at his home in West End after a prolonged illness, aged 70 years.

The deceased had been an invalid for more than 25 years, having been a sufferer from rheumatism. He worked in the several mines in this section and was known to practically every English speaking miner in this territory.

The deceased devoted the majority of his invalid years to developing a plan for the rescue of entombed miners. He was the first to suggest the sinking of pipes to feed entombed men.

Surviving the deceased are his wife and several children. Funeral services will probably be held tomorrow.
