Richard Dean Parker, 61 of Sundance, WY, died Friday, March 16, 2012, at his home on the Nussbaum Ranch. Rich was born September 2, 1950, to Eldon and Bertha Parker in Broken Bow, NE.
He was raised in Cozad, NE, and attended elementary and high school in Cozad.
He joined the United States Army following his junior year of high school, and served in the Vietnam War. He earned two purple hearts during his time in Vietnam. Following his time in the service Rich moved around working on different combine crews, before settling down in Sundance, WY.
In 1979 Rich moved to Buffalo, SD, and spent most of his adult life there in Harding County. He held various jobs from mechanic to driving truck, and hauling livestock. He spent a number of years working for Gunderson Trucking, and always enjoyed working on the ranch. In the last few years he spent time living in Gillette, Sheridan, and Sundance, WY. He loved following his grandchildren's many athletic endeavors, Sheridan College athletics, and enjoyed playing cribbage.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Karon; and his brother, Larry.
He is survived by three sons, Shane (Heidi) of Sheridan, WY, Ryan of Sheridan, WY, and Cody of Buffalo SD; a daughter, Megan of Fort Collins, CO; sister, Micky (Les) Nutt of Curtis, NE; brother, Jim (Karen) Parker of Lexington, NE; eight grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.
A military graveside service will be held on Tuesday March 20, 2012, at Inyan Kara Cemetery outside of Sundance, WY. Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral Home in Sundance is in charge of arrangements.
