He was born July 1, 1927, in David City to Joseph F. and Mary (Novak) Fiala. He was a 1944 graduate at Dwight High School. After that, he attended St. Procopius College, Lisle, Ill., Maryknoll College, Clark Summit, Pa., Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa, and then became a graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Banking. He also was a Burrough's Business Course graduate and a graduate of
the Dunn & Bradstreet Business Course.

He married Agnes Hottovy on June 24, 1953, in Dwight. He also served three years in the U.S. Air Force. He worked two years at Farmers State Bank in Rising City.

He began his 38 years working at First National Bank in Wahoo on April 2, 1951.

He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Cindy Fiala; granddaughters, Jenny (Ryan) Trausch, Brenda (Brian) Wandzilak, all of Lincoln, Beki Fiala, Broomfield, CO, Alyssa Fiala, Chicago, IL; great grandchildren, Isaac, Claire, Lucy Trausch, Evan Wandzilak; brother and sister-in-law, Joe Jr. and Lucille Fiala, Ulysses, NE. Preceded in death by wife, Agnes; and granddaughter, Heidi Fiala.
MASS of CHRISTIAN BURIAL Wednesday, March 21, 10am, St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Wahoo, with Rev. Charles Townsend, clergy. Interment, Dwight Assumption Cemetery, with Military Honors by American Legion Post #110. VISITATION Tuesday 2-5pm, Svoboda Funeral Home, and after 6pm at the Church, with Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7pm. Also 1 hour VISITATION before Service Wednesday.
