Ella Mae Curtis (Tressel), 94 of Lorain, OH died Thursday August 28, 2008 after a brief illness.
She was born in Lorain on September 24, 1913, and was a life long resident. She graduated from Lorain High School, class of 1931B.
She was an active lifelong member of St. Joseph Church, belonging to its Ladies Guild. She was also a member of the Young Golden Agers, and the Lorain Regional Council of Catholic Women in which she was instrumental in starting the Help-A-Child program for the NCCW, distributing hats, mittens and clothing to children in Catholic schools. She was also a member of AARP and Lorain Community Seniors, Inc.
Mrs. Curtis was a nurse's aid at St. Joseph Hospital and was employed at the former Felsco Company in Lorain. She enjoyed playing cards, reading and dancing.
Survivors include her daughter Janet Bialorucki (Miller) of Lorain, two step sons Ray Curtis of Huron, and Harry Curtis Jr. of Columbus, five granddaughters, and 11 great-grandchildren, a sister Wilma Black (Tressel) of Seguin, TX, and a niece.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry G. Curtis (May 9, 1987), and her first husband Harold D. Miller (February 28, 1944), sister Sister Mary Alma O.P. of the Sisters of Saint Dominic, Akron, OH, and her parents William and Margaret (Burns) Tressel.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Reichlin-Cooley Funeral Home, 2920 Broadway Lorain, where Christian Wake services will begin at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will begin with prayers on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Fr. James Schmitz will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
