Son of Gabriel Pelletier and Charlotte Gélinas dit Lacourse.

Baptized on February 24, 1819 in Yamachiche.

Married Rose LaJoie on November 14, 1841 at Saint Michael RC Church in Belleville.

On the 1851 Canadian census, his name is listed as "John Peltier". His children were born with the last name of Peltier which was changed to Pelkey by 1861. His surviving children immigrated to Bay City, Michigan in the mid 1860s where they decided to return to the original spelling of their last name, "Pelletier".

Buried on August 23, 1854 in the original St. Michael's churchyard cemetery on Church Street in Belleville. This cemetery no longer exists.
