According to Bates' History of PA Volunteers and veteran's records, William was a Private in Company D, 56th Pennsylvania Volunteer Regiment. He was drafted and mustered in on March 13, 1865 and mustered out with the company on July 1, 1865.

9-6-1877 - Mr. Augustus Agey of Clarion township, died of consumption last Saturday and his funeral took place on Monday. He was a worthy and estimable man and leaves a large family to mourn his death.
