Buck was born in Wamic, Oregon on April 28, 1922, to Sidney Mulvany and Thelma Woodcock Mulvany. His father was killed in a logging accident when Buck was 5. His mother later remarried, and when Buck was 8, the family moved to the Peach Ranch just east of Juntura, OR. Buck went to school in Juntura and for a little while in Harper.
At age 20, he joined the U.S. Navy, doing his basic training at Farragut, ID. He later attended gunnery school in San Diego, CA. He served on five different merchant marine ships during World War II, delivering supplies for the army.
On May 14, 1945, during his last leave before the war was over, he married Phyllis Shira of Harper, OR. The couple had four children: Sidney, Warren, Anita and Jeffery.
Based in Juntura, Buck spent 24 years doing road maintenance for Oregon's Department of Transportation. After his retirement, he and Phyllis moved to Little Valley, OR, and then later to Ontario.
He leaves behind his wife, Phyllis; his four children and their spouses; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Buck was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and a brother.
His family and friends will miss him and his dry sense of humor.
A viewing is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 20. Services will be held Wednesday, March 21, at 2 p.m. at the Lienkaemper Chapel, Ontario.
Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
