Lucia celebrated her 95th birthday on March 7th at her niece's home, Nancy Kochanski. On Wednesday, March 14th, surrounded by her brother Henry Sanchez from Kansas, son John and other loving nephews and nieces, she departed and joined her husband Charles Atchison and other family members in heaven - Arturo Sanchez Sr. (brother), Bertha Dryg (sister), Don Dryg (brother-in-law) Arturo Sanchez Jr. (nephew), Angelica Sanchez (sister-in-law) and Marisol Sanchez (niece).
Lucia immigrated to the U.S. from Bolivia in 1950 and resided in Minnesota where she met Charles Atchison, got married in 1956 and later moved to Sunnyvale, California where she lived until she departed from us. In 1968 Charles and Lucia decided to sponsor her three nephews (Nancy, Fred, Art) from Bolivia to come to the US and attend school; followed by 2 more nephews (John Atchison, Henry Atchison) who were adopted at the young age of 9 and 11 years old. Lucia was not only a great aunt, but she was also a strong mother figure who taught 'her kids' (as she would call her nephews Fred, Art and niece Nancy) the value of hard work and education. We love you Lucia and we will miss your smile and passion for life, which was taken away from you too soon.
Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. in All Saints Chapel at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 22555 Cristo Rey Dr., Los Altos followed by a Graveside Service.
