STERLING - Judy Ann Anderson, 62, of Sterling, died Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at Morrison Community Hospital, after a 4-year struggle with liver cancer.
She was born June 29, 1949, in East Moline, the daughter of Walter F. and Frances (Wissbaum) Mehl. She attended Alleman High School in Rock Island and Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa, and earned her master's degree in library science from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.
She married Thomas Anderson on Dec. 26, 1970, in Rock Island. She began her career as a volunteer librarian at St. Andrew School in Rock Falls, then was the girls physical education teacher and librarian at Montmorency School in Rock Falls. Over the next 25 years, she developed, taught and coordinated the gifted education and computer curriculum, and served as the librarian at Montmorency School. In 1997, she joined the Learning Resource Center at Sauk Valley Community College and retired as the LRC director in February 2012. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sterling and the American Library Association. She was a breast cancer survivor of 15 years. Survivors include her husband, Tom; and two daughters, Jodi (Michael Hall) Anderson of Champaign and Beth (Bernard Pudvah) Anderson of Portland, Conn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Karen Ann Mehl (1943-1944), and her brother, Gene Scott Mehl (1950), both in infancy. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sterling. Burial will be Saturday at Linwood Cemetery in Dubuque.
