My grandmother was resourceful, practical, creative, and loving, and had a subtle but wonderful sense of humor. She loved nature and animals and spoiling us grandkids, and I can still remember the sparkle she got in her eyes when she smiled. One thing I will never forget is her telling me when she was young, other kids used to call her "Helen of Troy". She didn't like it - not because it was cruel, but because she was very self-conscious and shy.
She never smiled in her pictures when she was younger and I actually asked her why she looked so upset in them. She laughed and said she was always thinking about how horrible the picture would probably turn out.

She is dearly missed, but someday we'll meet again.
