Lora was the third of seven born to Ira Gilbert 'Gib' and Florence Opal (Springer) Hyde. She married Murlen Edward Nelson Sr. in 1940 and they were the parents of four children: Ira Dewayne, Murlen Edward Jr. Sandra and Pamela.

Lora Vester Nelson, 72, of 4800 N.W. 53rd Court died Sunday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center of complications following a stroke. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Merle Hay Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery.
Mrs. Nelson, a homemaker, was born in Cardwell, Mo., and lived in Des Moines most of her life. She was a member of Bethel Open Bible Church.
Among survivors are two sons, Ira and Murlen Jr., both of Des Moines; two daughters, Pam Burch of Des Moines and Sandra Heisler of Urbandale; three sisters, June Pickett of Flint, Mich., and Maxine Stone and Mazel Braden, both of Senath, Mo.; 19 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to her church.
