He was born July 4, 1926, in Abilene, the son of Ellis E. and iris G. Callahan Bowers. He was reared in Abilene and attended local schools. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1944. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army.
He married Donna L. Carlstrom on Aug. 31, 1947, at the Carlstrom farm near Industry. They lived in several locations, before moving to Herington in 1951. They moved to Abilene in 1961.
Mr. Bowers was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Compay for 42 years.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Abilene, Abilene Elks Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Donna of Abilene; three sons, Bruce Bowers, Barry Bowers and Brad Bowers all of Abilene; three brothers, Bob Bowers of Rhonert Park, Ca. and Jack Bowers and Gerald Bowers, both of Abilene; one sister, Marilyn Bowers of Astoria, Ore.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy M. Bowers.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006 at the First Christian Church, Abilene with the Rev. Virgil Eubanks officiating. Burial will be in Abilene Cementery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at Danner Funeral Home, 501 n. Buckeye, Abilene.
