Latimer, Grady

Grady Len Latimer of Greenville was born in Trenton, Texas on Sept. 5, 1922, and passed away on Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at the Hunt Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at the Family Fellowship Church.

Burial will follow at Leonard Cemetery. Rev Paul Blue and Mr. Kenny Stone will be officiating.

Mr. Latimer was born to Aldo L. Latimer and Nannie Alena (Lea) Latimer. He was a faithful Christian and was a loyal member of Family Fellowship Church (formerly known as Lamar Baptist Church).

He met his wife, Opal Faye Ausburn, Celeste, and married her on May 25, 1942 in Durant, Okla.

He served in the United States Army Air Corp for 1942-1946 where he received an Honorable discharge as a World War II veteran.

They lived in Leonard for 15 years. He once operated the Sinclair Station in Leonard and delivered propane gas for Stapp Hardware and Propane as well. He worked for E-Systems for 28 years in Security and retired in 1986. He was known for his quick smile, laughter, and his love to make others happy. He loved his grandchildren with great passion. He also loved his wife of 62 years and missed her dearly when she went to be with the Lord in January of 2005. He could tell you how many years, months, weeks, days, and minutes they were married. Most of all, he loved His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his son, Doug Latimer and his wife Sherry Harper Latimer, his precious grandchildren, Kelly Latimer Sass with her husband Charles, along with two great grandchildren, Logan and Luke Sass, his only grandson, Daniel Douglas Latimer and his finance, LeeAnn Cooper, and the youngest grandchild, Julie Michelle Latimer. He is also survived by his sister, Ellen Ruth Mayo. Also survivors are Gladys Stapp, sister-in-law and dear friend, and brother-in-law, Charles Ausburn with his wife, Frankie.He is also survived and loved by many nieces and nephews. Dad had many friends, but his best friend has been Jack Warren. Also, he loved his Sunday school teacher, Kenny Stone, and his wife Cathy along with his Pastor, Paul Blue.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, young son, Jerry Len Latimer, brothers Leon Latimer and Bill Latimer, and sister Helen Compton.

Pallbearers will be Mike Baggett, Ricky Everhart, Charles Latimer, Daniel Latimer, Ken Money and Charles Sass.

Memorials may be made to the building fund of Family Fellowship or Gideons.
