John BEEBY was christened Jan 22, 1771 in Wetheral, Cumberland, England. He and his wife Ann (Wannop) BEEBY and seven of their eight children (first child Nancy Anne BEEBY d. England abt 1800 at age 4), some of them already married, came to New York from England on the ship "Commet," arriving Aug 9, 1822. On the passenger list he gives his occupation as "farmer," but he had also worked as a shoemaker in 1798 in Wetheral.
He was one of the first pioneers in Central Square, New York. In 1831, John BEEBE (common alternate spelling) and his son Jacob BEEBE we two of the first vestrymen of Central Square's Trinity Episcopal Church built that year. In 1839, John BEEBE (with Robert Elliott, the town of Hastings's first wagonmaker as well as owner of a saw mill and a tannery) rebuilt a burned-down brick hotel originally built by Hasting Curtiss in 1823, which was a favorite stage station and town meeting place.
