A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home with the I.O.O.F. Golden Rule Lodge No. 78 and the Rev. Walter Ferris of River Valley Community Church officiating. Private committal will be at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens. Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Oct. 12, 1919, in Kansas City, Kan. During World War II he joined the Army Air Corps and served in the European Theater.
On July 14, 1956, he married the former Stella Mein in Gardena, Calif. In 1961 he moved to Grants Pass and purchased the Redwood Avenue Chevron Gas Station, which he ran until 1971, when he sold it.
Shryer was a member of I.O.O.F., Rebekah Lodge, Rogue River Valley Grange, the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
In addition to his wife, survivors include four sons, Walter Shryer Jr. of VanBuren, Ark., Alfred Shryer of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Michael and Charles Shryer both of California; two stepdaughters, Lucia Gosztolai of Hungary and Nola Leibenzeder of Surrey, B.C.; three brothers, Marvin Shryer of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Norman and Eugene Shryer, both of Kansas City, Kan.; six sisters, Viola Hyatt of Montrose, Colo., Pauline Shryer of Branson, Ruth Keith of Eldorado Springs, Colo., Shirley Keith and Margaret Gilbert, both of Kansas City, Kan., and Ruth Oldfield of Utah; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
